As much as these two adore their families, they opted for an elegant elopement in one of the world’s most beautiful places. The diverse natural settings of Maui with all the lush vegetation and magnificent beaches was the ideal location for the couple to say their I Dos.

Cristina & Dick

Hawaii was the perfect choice for a dream wedding and honeymoon adventure. As each of the Hawaiian islands has their personalities, Cristina and Dick planned to stay a little over two weeks and visit three islands – Maui, Oahu, and Kauai – and get married on Maui.

They had seen some stunning natural beauty all over the world, so the wedding setting had to be pretty spectacular. Cristina chose one of our very favorite location combinations: a first look in the enchanting Honolua Forest and heartfelt ceremony at Ironwoods Beach, which has crystal blue water and dramatic lava rock cliffs.

Often brides feel like they should get a more simple or flowy dress if they are eloping or getting married on the beach, but we loved that Dick and Cristina still dressed to the nines. Dick was dapper in his blue suit and coral accents that were subtly matching Cristina’s bouquet.

Cristina wore a stunning lace gown and left a couple of beauty decisions open. Ironwoods Beach can be windy at times, so she initially didn’t know whether to go with her first choice side swept hairstyle or an updo to play it safe. She had done a side swept hairstyle for their engagement photos, was disappointed when the weather that day caused her curls to come out, and didn’t want a repeat of the same situation. I reassured her that our hair and makeup artists are used to working with the wind and humidity of the islands and encouraged Cristina to choose the style that would make her feel most comfortable herself, and like a beautiful bride. She also wasn’t sure if she wanted to wear a veil and asked me to bring fresh flowers as an option for hair. I loved that Cristina ultimately went with her gut, opting for the side swept hairstyle and white orchids. She looked gorgeous, and Dick was knocked off his feet!

Cristina also had a Pinterest-worthy bouquet that was custom designed from a handful of inspiration photos. She started by sending me a couple of pictures that she couldn’t decide between. The inspiration bouquets differed regarding shape, color scheme, and flowers. However, I saw that they had the same whimsical feeling and were a mixture of tropical and classically romantic flowers. We sent questions and answers and more pictures back and forth to put Cristina’s vision into more precise detail and then trusted our florist to bring it to life. Boy, did she deliver! The result was exactly what Cristina wanted, and we all could not stop admiring this amazing bouquet.

The couple included Hawaiian traditions into their ceremony. The blowing of the conch shell customarily used to announce celebrations marked the beginning and end of the ceremony. The couple also exchanged leis before exchanging their rings as another symbol of their commitment.

A guitarist added to the naturally romantic atmosphere, and he even learned their special song “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett for their first dance.

The days leading up to the wedding had been overcast and rainy from a passing storm, and Cristina was so worried that they wouldn’t be able to have the beach ceremony they imagined. We had a couple of backup plans, but I had felt their wedding day would be sunny. It was a lovely day, and they were even blessed with a breathtaking sunset they got to take in together upon a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
